Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
- RPL facilitates the progression of candidates through Qualifications by giving advanced standing for learning outcomes they already have achieved or competency they can demonstrate as already being held.
- RPL is appropriate for candidates who have previously attained skills and knowledge and who, when enrolling in Qualifications, seek to shorten the normal duration of their training and either continue or commence working.

Course Overview
The TLID0017 Operate container side lifter unit provides the skills and knowledge required to safely operate a container side lifter (also known as a side loader) to lift and transport shipping containers. It covers pre-operational checks, lifting techniques, load restraint, hazard control, and shutdown procedures, ensuring operations are compliant with workplace and regulatory safety standards.

- Logistics and transport personnel working in intermodal freight terminals, container depots, and freight forwarding operations

Eligibility requirements
Participants must:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Hold a current Heavy Rigid (HR) licence or higher (recommended)
- Have basic English literacy and numeracy skills (sufficient to interpret safety instructions and complete workplace documentation). LLND test will be conducted prior to commencement of training.
- Be physically fit to perform manual handling tasks
- Wear appropriate PPE during practical training and assessment
Unsupervised Self-Study/Homework:
- Prior to training, participants are expected to self-study up to 5 hours of pre-course reading via TDT’s LMS. Online learner guide resource pack will be provided.
Assessment methods:
- Theory assessment (multiple-choice or short-answer questions)
- Practical demonstration of safe side lifter operation, including:
- Pre-start inspection
- Safe container lifting and unloading
- Load securement
- Emergency procedures
Statement of Attainment:
Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for: TLID0017 – Operate container side lifter
