Entry requirements

  • Minimum age requirement: 18 years
  • Hold the appropriate class of driver’s licence
  • A written enrolment form.
  • Unique Student Identifier (USI)- every student must have a verified USI without which unit of competency will not be issued.
  • LLND test prior to enrolment. Applicant must demonstrate the language, literacy and numeracy required at least AQF level 2.
  • A Pre-Training Review prior to enrolment to determine the support needs of individual learners and provides access to the educational and support services necessary for the individual learner to meet the requirements of the training product.
  • Photo ID must be brought on the day of enrolment that includes full name, signature and date of birth & a secondary ID.

(The LLND assessment is utilised to assess if a student has the ability to complete the training at the required level of competency and for TDT to assess the level of support required in this regard in order to provide the student with a reasonable opportunity to complete the unit of competency. The LLND assessment usually takes place during the pre-training review, where support needs are assessed and plans are put into place to achieve the best outcome for the student)

  • Check fuel, oil, water, and tyre condition
  • Secure loads and equipment safely
  • Plan and confirm travel routes
  • Operate vehicles across different terrains
  • Apply defensive driving techniques
  • Monitor environmental and site conditions
  • Maintain communication with team members
  • Finalise journeys and complete reporting
  • Perform basic vehicle recovery tasks
  • Use recovery equipment safely
Theory Training
  • Vehicle preparation and planning
  • Load security and safety requirements

  • Defensive driving principles
  • Terrain and weather considerations
  • Basic vehicle maintenance
  • Hazard identification and risk control
  • Workplace procedures and safety requirements
Assessment

Assessment is conducted through a combination of:

  • Practical demonstration
  • Trainer observation
  • Verbal and/or written questions

Participants must demonstrate their ability to safely prepare, operate, and manage a vehicle in field conditions, including basic recovery and communication procedures.

Outcome

Upon successful completion, participants will
receive a Statement of Attainment for:
PMASUP236 – Operate vehicles in the field

  • This course does not provide a separate licence outcome
  • Participants must already hold the correct driver’s licence
  • Training may be adjusted to suit workplace or client requirements
  • Onsite training is available for group bookings

Important Information: Course duration/costs do not guarantee students will sit the on road licence test. To be eligible to test, students MUST first meet VicRoads criteria. If criteria are NOT met students will not be able to undergo the on road test and will continue to train for the duration of the course. Additional costs will apply if students book subsequent training and/or testing.
