Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):

  • RPL facilitates the progression of candidates through Qualifications by giving advanced standing for learning outcomes they already have achieved or competency they can demonstrate as already being held.
  • RPL is appropriate for candidates who have previously attained skills and knowledge and who, when enrolling in Qualifications, seek to shorten the normal duration of their training and either continue or commence working.
  • RPL is offered to all candidates during the Pre-Enrolment process.

Course Overview

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to secure cargo, in accordance with procedures and regulatory requirements, as part of work activities within industry.

Half day*

Theory (2 hours) and workplace simulation and practical observation (2 hours)

*A learner must have some prior skills and knowledge of securing goods and cargo. If not, then the learner is expected to engage in unsupervised self-study for about 4 hours per day for 4 days prior to attempting the assessments.

  • By completing this course, learners will be able to:

    • Secure cargo, containers, and equipment in line with safety procedures and regulations.
    • Lash, unlash, and protect cargo from weather damage.
    • Safely load and unload goods/cargo using correct manual handling techniques.
    • Apply industry documentation and reporting requirements. 

    Work effectively in a team environment, following WHS procedures.
