About the Course

The Scissor Lift (SL) Yellow Card Course is designed for individuals who need to safely operate scissor-type Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) in accordance with Australian safety and workplace standards. This nationally recognised program provides the knowledge and practical skills required to use electric or diesel scissor lifts under 11 metres safely and efficiently in various work environments.

Delivered by EWPA Accredited Trainers, the course meets the industry’s competency and safety requirements and provides participants with the official EWPA Yellow Card upon successful completion.

Course Objective

This course aims to ensure participants can:
– Identify hazards and conduct risk assessments before operating a scissor lift.
– Perform pre-operational inspections and safety checks.
– Operate scissor lifts safely, following manufacturer and site procedures.
– Apply emergency descent and shutdown procedures correctly.
– Comply with WHS requirements and workplace safety standards.

Course Content

The Scissor Lift training covers:
– Overview of EWPs and scissor lift components.
– Legislative responsibilities and duty of care.
– Pre-start and post-operational inspections.
– Safe operation and maneuvering of scissor lifts.
– Risk management and hazard control.
– Emergency procedures and safe parking/shutdown.

Delivery Mode

Classroom Theory: Face-to-face instruction on legislation, safety procedures, and operational principles.
Practical Training: Hands-on operation of a scissor lift in a controlled environment under trainer supervision.

Assessment Methods

  1. Knowledge Assessment – Written or verbal questions covering WHS and scissor lift operation.
  2. Practical Assessment – Observation of safe and competent operation of a scissor lift, including inspection, maneuvering, and shutdown.

Assessment Criteria

Participants must demonstrate the ability to:
– Complete pre-operational checks and identify potential hazards.
– Operate the scissor lift safely, maintaining stability and awareness.
– Apply emergency and shutdown procedures correctly.
– Comply with all WHS and site-specific requirements.

Training Outcome

Upon successful completion, participants will:
– Receive an EWPA Yellow Card endorsed for Scissor Lift (SL) operation.
– Be recognised as competent to safely operate scissor lifts under 11 metres.
– Meet industry requirements for EWP operation across construction, warehousing, and maintenance sectors.

Health and Safety

Participants must arrange and wear appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) during all practical activities, including a safety helmet, high-visibility vest, safety boots, gloves, and eye protection. Additional PPE such as hearing or fall protection may be required based on site conditions. All PPE must meet Australian Standards and be in good condition.

Graduates may extend their EWP skills by completing additional EWPA Yellow Card modules, such as:
Vertical Lift (VL)
Self-Propelled Boom Lift (BL)
Trailer Lift (TL)
Truck Mounted Lift (TM)

Training Locations

Training is conducted at TDT Hallam Site or client worksites equipped with compliant scissor lifts.

Certification

Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a Statement of Attainment (SOA) and an official EWPA Yellow Card – Scissor Lift (SL), recognised nationally as proof of competency in scissor lift operation.

Ensure you bring a Photo ID (eg. drivers licence or passport) with you on the day of the training.
