The comprehensive traffic control course in Melbourne instructed by TDT Training is designed to provide skills in acquiring, confirming, clarifying, and applying safety requirements. Students will receive training in the following:

    • Planning and Preparation

        • Traffic controllers are responsible for accessing, interpreting, and applying site traffic management plan procedures to ensure strict compliance.
        • Proficiency in obtaining, confirming, clarifying, and applying precise work instructions is essential.
        • Execute the identification and implementation of signage and devices.
        • Check tools and equipment for maintenance requirements and create reports for these concerns.
        • Demonstrate a nuanced understanding and application of environmental protection requirements through adept identification, confirmation, clarification, and application.
        • Identify, confirm, clarify and apply environmental protection requirements.
    • Controlling Traffic

        • Learn how to position or confirm traffic signs and barriers
        • Directly practise traffic control safely for vehicles and pedestrians
        • Learn how to manage changing traffic conditions and guide vehicles by stops/slow bats
        • Use clear and unobstructed hand signals
        • Report traffic violations
    • Operating Communication Devices

        • Adjusting reception/transmission of communication devices

  • This includes knowledge of the following, as required to control traffic with a stop-slow bat:
    • site and equipment safety requirements
    • traffic controlling
    • traffic management plans
    • traffic control signage and barricades
    • radio operations
    • equipment types, characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations
    • operational and maintenance procedures for equipment
    • JSAs/Safe work method statement

    Additionally, you’ll need to read The Code of Practice for Worksite Safety – Traffic Management (CoP) to ensure you meet all requirements to become a traffic controller in Victoria.

    The qualification is valid for 3 years from the date of the course. To maintain it after that date, a traffic controller refresher course must be undertaken.

    The entry requirements for the refresher course are:

    Applicants must demonstrate the basic language, literacy and numeracy required at this level. An LLN assessment is conducted at pre-enrolment to assess if you require support.

    The competency assessment will be:

    • Demonstration of knowledge through written answers and projects.
    • Demonstrate workplace skills and knowledge through practical placement based on workplace activities in a simulated environment.

    Delivery Mode:

    • Blended delivery consisting of online, face-to-face, and practical simulations.

    Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):

    • RPL is appropriate for candidates who have previously attained skills and knowledge and who, when enrolling in Qualifications, seek to shorten the normal duration of their training and either continue or commence working.
    • RPL is offered to all candidates during the Pre-Enrolment process

    How soon can I work after finishing my course?

    After completing the course, you must get a traffic control card. You won’t be able to start work until you have your traffic control card. You can apply for your traffic control card after you’ve completed your training. This will take a couple of months to come through, depending on where you are located in Australia
