TLI41221 Certificate IV in Transport and Logistics (Road Transport – Car Driving Instruction)
Program Objectives:
This qualification is for those engaged in driving instructor job roles within the Transport and Logistics Industry and who want to become certified Driving Instructor.
A driving instructor is anyone who, for profit/gain or as part of their trade or business, teaches an unlicensed person to drive a motor car on a public or open road. This definition doesn’t include motorcycles, a vehicle that weighs more than 4.5 tonnes or a vehicle that has seating for more than 12 adults including the driver.
Learners will be required demonstrate skills and knowledge to perform a broad range of skilled applications including requirements to evaluate and analyse current practices, to develop new criteria and procedures for performing current practices, and to provide some leadership and guidance to others in applying skills and planning skill development.
This qualification is currently cited as meeting part of the requirements for certification as a Motor Vehicle Driving Instructor, as defined by relevant state/territory licensing and regulatory requirements.

On successful completion a participant will have:
AQF Certificate that can be achieved by participating in training sessions, completing assignments and by demonstrating your ability by putting the learning into practice under real road conditions.
This course prepares you to work in job roles such as:
Car Driving Instructor or Heavy Vehicle Driving Instructor in Victoria.
The entry requirements for this program are:
There are no entry requirements. The applicant, however, must successfully complete an LLN assessment and a Pre-Training review prior to training to identify and address specific learning needs and support required if any.
The competency assessment will be:
- Knowledge assessment through written questions
- Skills assessment through demonstration/practical activities
Delivery Mode:
Training will consist of face-to-face training in a classroom environment. Practical training will be given in a simulated or workplace setting by a qualified trainer and assessor.

Study Pathways:
Preferred further study pathway is TLI50221 – Diploma of Logistics or any other AQF Level 5 qualification that is relevant to their area of interest.
Employment pathway:
By completing this course, students will start their pathway to becoming a fully qualified driving instructor. Once qualified, they will have the choice of starting a new career as a full time, part time or casual employee of a driving school or as an independent driving instructor working for oneself.
Note: To become a Driving Instructor in Victoria one must complete this qualification. Driving Instructor Authority (DIA) is required from the Commercial Passenger Vehicles Victoria. A full driver’s licence, Working with Children Card, police check and medical certificate are required to obtain the DIA.
