Course Details

Chain of Responsibility (COR) Training Course

If you consign, pack, load or receive goods as part of your business, you could be held legally liable for breaches of road transport laws even though you do not drive a heavy vehicle. In addition, corporate entities, directors, partners and managers are accountable for the actions of people under their control. This is the ‘Chain of Responsibility’ (COR) training course.

Each person in the COR training course must take all reasonable steps to ensure that the driver of a fatigue-regulated heavy vehicle does not drive on a road while impaired by fatigue or breach road transport laws relating to fatigue. In addition to this, each person in the COR training course must take all reasonable steps to ensure a heavy vehicle driver can perform his or her duties without breaching road transport laws.

Unit Outline
This unit will prepare a learner to understand and explain the chain of responsibility features, applying the requirements, and identifying and reporting breaches in the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) and regulations or applicable state/territory law and regulations.

Legislative and regulatory requirements are applicable to this unit. The primary Chain of Responsibility legislation requirement of this unit of competency is the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL).

Application of skills and knowledge
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to identify, apply and follow chain of responsibility legislation, regulations, transport and workplace procedures in relation to heavy vehicles as they apply to an individual’s own job role.

Duration: 1 Day *

* Assuming that learner has prior skills and knowledge of reasonable steps to ensure how a heavy vehicle driver can perform his or her duties without breaching road transport laws. Learners are expected to engage in self-directed learning prior to assessment.

Assessment Methods:
1. Knowledge Assessment (Written questions)
2. Project Activities Assessment (project report)

Hallam, Bendigo, Sale, Sunshine or Swan Hill, or Client Sites (Warehouses or Offices)

Pathways:
Upon completion of this Chain of Responsibility training course, students may enrol in other units of competencies that form a part of the qualification in driving operations, transport scheduling, logistics, warehousing operations, or Road transport terminal operations.

Job roles:
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to identify, apply and follow chain of responsibility legislation, regulations, transport and workplace procedures in relation to heavy vehicles as they apply to an individual’s own job role (drivers, schedulers, supervisors or managers)
