FAQs

Is TDT’s light rigid licence course available for automatic and manual vehicles?

We offer our light rigid licence training for both automatic and manual vehicles.

What can you drive with a LR driver’s licence?

Having a light truck licence allows you to drive a range of vehicles, not just trucks. On a light rigid licence, you are also qualified to drive minibuses and motor homes. This licence also covers small equipment carriers, cranes or other vehicles common on landscaping or construction sites.

What kind of work can you get once you have an LR truck licence?

Having an LR truck licence can provide you an entry point into a variety of work. In the construction industry, certain types of cranes or equipment carriers also fall under this licence class. If you are seeking a role in delivery services, many courier trucks fall within this licence class, as do small tour buses or luxury shuttles – very useful if you work for a private transportation company that facilitates group tours or runs community bus programs.

What are the main benefits of obtaining a light rigid licence?

A light rigid licence allows you to operate vehicles that transport more people or cargo than your standard car. This offers you greater flexibility, whether you’re using the licence professionally or in a more personal capacity. The LR licence opens the door to new job opportunities in a variety of industries, and you’ll benefit from enhanced driving skills – training for the LR licence involves advanced driving techniques and specialised knowledge about vehicle maintenance.

Once you have the LR licence, it will also be easier for you to train and apply for higher classes of licence – such as a medium rigid or heavy rigid licence.

TDT can support you in further training courses for medium rigid and heavy rigid trucks and vehicles – contact our team to find out more.

Are there any prerequisites to taking the TDT Light Rigid Licence training course?

There is one key prerequisite you need to fulfil before you attend our light rigid licence training course. All drivers must have held a full or probationary Victorian car licence for at least 12 months. Training on international licences is not allowed (there is an exemption if you hold a New Zealand driver’s licence). If you want to check you are eligible for our training program or to sit the final LR driver’s licence test, give our team a call today.
